Executive intro

Culture Amp, a leading employee experience platform, faced significant challenges managing their extensive email library. Emails were stuck in the code, making them a challenge to update. Managing 45+ locales per email meant their team was handling a lot of files to keep translations on track. They turned to Dyspatch to simplify their email production workflow, moving from a code-heavy approach to a more collaborative, efficient, and scalable process.

The challenge

Before Dyspatch, Culture Amp's email management process was resource-dependent. Their system relied heavily on engineers and used a Git repository that had become cumbersome over time. With approximately 800 email templates (including localized versions of the same templates) using Handlebars templating language, their process was complex and difficult to maintain.

Mac Fox, lead product manager at Culture Amp, described how their previous workflow left engineers shouldering the burden of template updates and management, creating a system that was inefficient and challenging to ensure brand consistency and manage translations effectively.

To further enhance efficiency, Dyspatch seamlessly integrates with Culture Amp’s existing tools, including Sendgrid as their Email Service Provider (ESP) and Smartling for translations. Additionally, Dyspatch's robust theme support ensured brand consistency across all email templates, while our dedicated customer success team stood ready to provide top-notch support throughout the implementation and beyond.

The process

Working with Culture Amp, Dyspatch provided seamless onboarding to our email production platform. Designs were imported and optimized for five distinct email templates by 'blockifying' each design to become part of their new email design system. Now that they have their five base emails, endless new emails can be created and remixed effortlessly by dragging and dropping a few blocks.

With Dyspatch firmly in place, Culture Amp’s typical workflow has undergone a significant transformation. Now, when product teams identify the need for email updates, they can quickly be set up for success with Dyspatch. New teams receive a brief overview of Dyspatch, the modules they’ll be using to create their emails, and how to use the supported integrations to both translate their finished emails, and export them to Culture Amp’s ESP.

This newly streamlined workflow empowers Culture Amp’s product teams to work independently, crafting and managing emails with minimal oversight. Dyspatch’s support team is also available, should any questions about technical or best practices around email production and design arise. 

The new workflow not only increases efficiency, but also fosters a sense of independence, and ownership among the teams at Culture Amp: the product team can swiftly create and update beautiful, fully localized, and thoroughly tested emails, without support from a design or engineering team. As a result, Culture Amp is able to free up engineering time previously spent manually managing their template database to instead redirect valuable engineering time to building further value for their customers.
