We did experience that but we grew to a point where we needed the partitions quickly enough that it didn’t matter.

It’s been a while after you wrote this post, but I am curious about increasing the WCUs during the migration. As by increasing the throughput implies in more partitions being created, and given that after decreasing the throughput DynamoDB doesn’t merge the partitions (leading to the dilution of capacities among remaining partitions), I would like to know if you had some bad experience by having many partitions than expected when you designed the table.

Thanks

Brad, I have a similar request. I know I’m two years late, but if you’re open to a quick email discussion about some specifics — especially related to schemas being migrated, which you mentioned in this post you’ll cover in a later post, but I doubt that time ever came ;-). Thank you for reading.

Hey Ujj,

We haven’t open sourced any of our scripts, as they’re all pretty specific to our dataset. But I’d be happy to chat about what they looked like 🙂

Excellent post, I am in the middle of a very similar migration. I am wondering if you would like to open source some of the scripting/plumbing code you wrote for the pgsql -> dynamodb migration.
